'Commander Kenny Leibbrandt was taught
music at an early age.'
Commander Kenny Leibbrandt was
taught music at an early age.
Kenny was
first taught on cornet and by the age of 7 years was playing
euphonium in the local Salvation Army Junior Brass Band. He
moved around the various sections of the band playing a
variety of brass instruments. Kenny joined the Western
Province Command Band in 1987 as principal euphonium player
and in 1988 transferred to the South African Navy Band.
The first
saxophone was
created in the 1840s by
the Belgian Adolphe Sax.
Although the instrument
is made out of
brass, it is
classified as a
woodwind
instrument.
