First impressions of S101.
S 101 first sailed with a
HDW
crew 28 Feb 05 to conduct Sea Acceptance Trials (SATs) in
the Kiel area. After 4 weeks of shallow water trials she
sailed 28 Mar 05 for Kristiansand, Norway, to conduct
deep-water trials.

SAN MEKO A-200 PATROL CORVETTES
On 3 December 1999 a contract was signed with the European South
African Corvette Consortium (ESACC) which includes Blohm + Voss, HDW,
TRT, African Defence Systems and Thomson-CSF, for four patrol
corvettes for the SA Navy. This contract became effective from 28
April 2000. Two were built by Blohm + Voss Hamburg, and two by
HDW.Kiel. The first of the hulls was delivered in 2003 for weapon
systems integration in South Africa by African Defence Systems and
Thomson-CSF. The first of class is expected to be completed in 2004
and the last by 2005.

TYPE 209 SUBMARINES
Three Type 209 submarines are being acquired for the SA Navy from
the German Submarine Consortium. Final approval for their purchase was
given on 15 September 1999 and the contract was signed on 7 July 2000.
The submarines are being built in Kiel, Germany, by the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche
Werft AG (HDW), TNSW and Kockums with a first delivery date of
September 2005, and then at 12 month intervals thereafter.
