Chinese Navy Task Group Conducts Port Call in

Escort Task Group of the Peopleís Liberation Army Navy
(PLAN), from the People's Republic of China arrived at Naval Base
Simonís Town (NBS SMST) on Wednesday 27 June 2018. The
task group has just completed a six month anti-piracy
mission in the Gulf of Aden.
PLAN 889 TAIHU
It was a
Heroesí welcome for the PLAN as friends and family and
the local Chinese community in Cape Town arrived at
Naval Base Simonís Town to welcome the ships at Oscar
Community welcomed the PLAN by honouring them with the
Traditional Chinese Lion Dance. The Lion dance is a
traditional way in which the Chinese culture to
celebrate a special occasion.
Task Force is led by Deputy Chief of Staff, Senior
Captain Wu Dongzhu. The Task Group comprises of two
frigates, namely 546 PLAN YANCHENG, 550 PLAN
WEIFANG and an integrated supply vessel, 889 PLAN
of the visit is to maintain diplomatic international
relations and enhance contact between the PLAN, the
South African Community and Chinese Community residing
in South Africa.
Fleet Force Preparation Rear Admiral (JG) S.F. Petersen,
represented the Chief of the SA Navy and Flag Officer
Fleet in welcoming the Task Group to Naval Base Simonís
courtesy calls were conducted with the local authorities
shortly after arrival.
