The annual Mitchell’s Plain festival took place 25-27 November 2016 at the Westridge Gardens in Mitchell’s Plain.

The festival celebrated its 8th year of existence and kicked off with a bang. Apart from the SANDF being the biggest participant in the festival, various sponsors and local businesses also took part making it a huge success this year.

For the community of Mitchell’s Plain and surrounding areas the festival is one of the highlights on their calendar each year. This gives the youth and scholars an opportunity to interact with the Armed Forces, South African Police Service and other entities taking part in the festival.

The SANDF once again did an exceptional job by promoting the DOD and reminding the community about career options within the SANDF. The community was entertained by the Silver Falcons from the South African Air Force based in Langebaanweg as well as SAASIC based in Potchefstroom that specialises with dogs, bikes and horses and did an entertaining mock-up display under the auspices of Staff Sergeant Van Wyk. Thereafter a mini military tattoo was held where the SA Army Band entertained the community with military as well as conventional music, this being the highlight of the day.
