For the two years in a row SAS WINGFIELD’s men have been coming together at the SAS WINGFIELD wardroom to celebrate, embrace and cherish being men of character and substance. September is a month highly anticipated and looked forward to by most men in the unit, as is the month where the SAS WINGFIELD “MENS HEALTH AWARENESS DAY” takes place. The focal point (theme) this year was: sexual health. Statistically, sexual problems and sexuality is one of the leading causes of broken homes.

The day kicked off with an opening prayer by Chaplain E.N. Fingo, followed by the welcoming by the Officer Commanding of SAS WINGFIELD Captain A.C. Kriger. The keynote speaker of the day was Mr. Glenn de Swart representing the Ivan Tom Center for Men’s Health. He delivered a powerful and insightful presentation emphasizing exactly on what the day aimed to address, he talked about the underlying issues that average men tend to overlook and treat as if they are not there. He spoke mostly about the variety of sexual choices amongst men, consequences of such choices and the societal approval or disapproval of such choices. He therefore urged all those who find themselves in such situations to always exercise caution and be safe or alternatively to call the “Health 4 Men” number when in need of some advice.
