The Warrant Officers of the SA Army Formation visited Naval Base Simon’s Town on 02 October 2012. The team building visit consisted of MWO’s, SWO’s and WO1’s. For some of the members, the wide Open Ocean and naval ships were amazing, as this was the first time they had seen such a spectacular sight.

Their day was well spent, starting off with a tour of the South African Naval Museum followed by an interesting presentation by BPRO, Cdr P.G. Van Den Berg in the St. Georges Chapel. The visiting Warrant Officers then moved towards the Boat House in West yard where they all had the opportunity to have a short trip on one of the NAMACURAS after which they had lunch at Southern Floe Mess.

The Warrant Officers then returned to East yard where they were taken on a tour onboard the SAS SPIOENKOP, which for some was quite an experience as they had never been on a ship before. They then had the opportunity to be taken for a tour of the dockyard by the Public Relations Visit Section, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Overall the visit proved to be a huge success, not only was it informative but it was also entertaining for the visiting Warrant Officers. They now go on their way, knowing a lot more about the SA Navy and with a great team building exercise behind them.
