The haven is a Non Profit Organisation and caters for the homeless and destitute in the False Bay area. Members of all races, religions and creeds are welcome at the shelter, and it currently houses 25 residents which include 15 women and 10 men. The haven provides up to six meals per day, and relies on donations from the general public as well as private organisations.

The Base Management and HQ section of Naval Base Simon’s Town decided to plant a vegetable and herb garden that could sustain the Haven in the longer term. The following seedlings were bought from money raised by this naval section: carrots, cabbage, beetroot, beans, lettuce, pumpkin, spinach, spring onions, parsley, mint, fennel, as well as compost and fertilizer with which to enrich the soil.
