East London Port Festival Hosts the South African Navy

The excitement in East London hit fever pitch with the return of the ever popular Port Festival at the East London Harbour from 23 – 24 June. With the arrival of SAS AMATOLA and SAS GALASHEWE to Buffalo City on 21 June 2012 it was sure going to be a fantastic weekend ahead.

The Navy delegation comprising Officers Commanding paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Mayor of the Buffalo Metropolitan Mr Msoki. Later in the day the Deputy Mayor and other stakeholders were invited to the Wardroom of SAS AMATOLA for a luncheon onboard. As promised, the weekend turned out to be explosive and left the East London crowd begging for more. Saturday 23 June the South African Navy showed their excellence in drilling through precision drill as they marched on the main street of East London and left the crowd with mouthfuls of praise.

The Navy exercised its right of entry by marching through the streets of East London. It was all tools down for East London people as they filled up the East London Harbour to experience the excitement of the Port Festival. There were long queues with people looking forward to go on board the SAS AMATOLA and SAS GALASHEWE, to view the precision drill that was performed by Naval Station Durban and to see the excellence of the Navy Band. To top it all was a breathtaking fireworks show!

Recruitment was there for some assistance to those who wanted to apply to the Navy. To close the festival South African Navy Band gave a performance that the crowds will never forget.
