On the 12th of June 2012 SAS SALDANHA hosted a media briefing at the unit in preparation for the MSD Passing out Parade which will take place on the 14th of June 2012. Ten journalist from different newspapers and media ranging from SABC News, Die Burger, New age and the Argus attended.

After six months of intensive training, 290 learners will be graduating. The spirits are high and the learners are grateful to have made it to the end.

On arrival, media representatives were given a presentation by Officer Commanding Capt V.Pillay explaining the training process the learners undergo during their 6 month stay at SAS SALDANHA prior to graduating. The journalists were taken on a short tour of the unit to witness a day in the life of a “Troopie”.

The media tours varied from watching learners handling weapons to visiting the swimming pool to watch activities in the water.

Reporters interviewed the young learners and asked questions about what they have learnt during their military skills development programme. The responses from the interviewed MSDs were overwhelmingly positive and heartfelt. They told the interviewers how much they've learnt and also commented on their newly acquired ability to swim. Many MSDs arriving 6 months previously had a fear of swimming. They are proud to say now that they have overcome their fear of the water and leave as disciplined sailors.

The atmosphere at SAS SALDANHA is buzzing with activity leading up to the passing out parade. The whole of the ship's company are chipping in to lend a hand to make the Passing out Parade a memorable day for the MSDs and their visiting family members. It is expected that the MSD January 2012 intake will leave SAS SALDANHA- and continue their careers as disciplined sailors.
