The Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) Navy visits South African Navy Headquarters

On Monday,16 November 2009, the Chinese PLA Navy paid a courtesy call to the Chief of the SA Navy(C Navy), V Adm J Mudimu. The delegation consisted of the Political Commissar of the Chinese PLA Navy, V Adm LIU Xiaojiang, R Adm MA Faxiang, R Adm REN Zhongji, R Adm HUANG Yaonian, Sr Capt XIE Dongpei and Cdr TU Li. R Adm (JG) S.L. Pillay and Capt L. Van Dyk accompanied the delegation for the duration of the visit.

C Navy and a 10 man guard of honour received the delegation in front of the SA Navy’s HQ building. C Navy and the delegation then proceeded to his office where the courtesy call and the exchange of goodwill gifts took place. A briefing was held in the boardroom where the visitors met the remaining members of the SA Navy Staff Council.

R Adm (JG) W.H.O. Teuteberg presented a briefing on the functions and capabilities of the SA Navy. The main reason for this visit was to create a platform to discuss training and the possibility of exchanging students between the SA Navy and the Chinese PLA Navy.

The visit concluded with a finger lunch at the crow’s nest before they departed. The SA Navy wishes the PLA Navy a pleasant stay in South Africa.
