March – (First Month of Autumn Season)

Do’s & Don't’s

• Soil preparation for autumn starts in March.
• Prepare beds by giving ample compost in the top 30 cm of the soil.
• Loosen the soil if it has been compacted by rains and give a layer of mulch.
• Test the soil for acidity and add lime if necessary, depending on what will be planted.
• Dig in lots of well-matured compost and a dressing of super phosphate.
• Remove exhausted soil from window boxes and fill with enriched composted garden soil.

• Bulbs that flower in winter and spring must not be planted in hot soil as they need cool soil and water to sprout.
