Current Notice   Firing Warning

The SA Naval Museum will conduct a single 9-inch Rifled Muzzle-Loading (RML) gun firing on Friday, 21 February 2020 at 12h00 in celebration of Armed Forces Day. The firing will be conducted at Middle North Battery in Simon's Town.

Pet owners are advised to take precautions.

The Lower North Battery and Marine Life

Lower North Battery is a functional naval firing range authorized by Government Gazette. The lower North Battery (then called Zoutman Battery) was designed by Thibault in 1793 and is the oldest fortification in South Africa that is still armed!
